We will find hope in the impossible — Spock, Star Trek Beyond

Amazing, hectic three days we ever had!

The day started by a Zoom call, introducing each other, with all the chitter chatters about food, sharing ideas for the narrative and a night out on Zoom call to the day we all had smile on our faces!

Process

1. Brainstorming

First day, we brainstormed all our ideas on the Miro board. We discussed the points which were explained in the session. Then, we went all crazy with new ideas and concepts and discussed them thoroughly.

We were nowhere near a concrete concept. We all started chatting about food, places we live in etc. Through this chitter-chatter we were able to come up with a new profound idea.

2. Ideation

Next day morning, we had a rough structure of the content we wanted to pursue. Everyone in the group had the ideas and mediums through which we could portray a narrative.

A session was held in the afternoon, which was fun. Where we were supposed to build a story with the sentence we were given by the initial person.

3. Narrative/Storyboarding

We chose the narrative of:-

  1. Ship in the stormy waves.
  2. New normal of 2020

These were the parallel narratives we were going to portray. We jot down the Common areas or the Keywords were we could inter relate the emotions in each situation. In above image you could see the comparison and similar elements in both the narratives.

We divided the Storyboard into 4 Stages and divided the work among us. We gave a certain set of Keywords to each stage. The keyword helped us throughout and kept us on the lines of the narrative.

  • Stage 1 — Frame in both our clips is the space that we created, element is the hand and shadows.

Design principle used for above: (Point of interest, Balance of frames, movement of hands)

  • Stage 2a — She has hope in her eyes though stuck hence eyes are focused in color.

Design principle used for above: (Repetition)

  • Stage 2b — Curtains in both their clips is the space… Trying to come out..

Design principle used for above: (Point of interest, movement)

  • Stage 3 — Deliberately kept the space at the background empty to show nothingness and balance between the foreground and background. Blindfolded in white to show the hope. She sees hope in the dark situation.

Design principle used for above: (Point of interest, Balance of frames, movement)

  • Stage 4 — All the problems have disappeared(as Shreeya is the dark storm) and there is happiness and peace shown through pujashri’s body expression.

Design principle used for above: (Point of interest, Rhythm, movement)

4. Creating Visuals

5. My Contribution towards the Video Making:

Stage 3: Calm after the Storm

Ideations:

  1. To show the hope by taking a protagonist standing on the boat seeing his home hoping to reach home and the other, standing in the house seeing the boat for a hope to go on an adventure. Symbolizing the hope for each situation.

2. Dance as the storm and calmness. The blindfold as the symbol of hope.

But Later, we realized Hope awakens when one adapts to the situation and rises above it. Therefore, we thought Dance would be a better medium to justify the emotion and narrative.

Trying to Capture Hope

Process:

For references, watched a bunch of videos. Took a reference of the music to connect to the emotion. Music: Shiva tandav stotram by Shankar Mahadevan. I was enacting as the dark storm.

We had pretty good ideas to perform and we implemented it all. But later, the ones holding the narrative were taken.

All of the Ideations and Videos taken are compiled and given below:

Stage 4: Light at the end of the Tunnel

Disclosing torch light slowing entering the dark.

Ideating with the hand, which gave it a horrifying scary look. Therefore gave it a go with the face.

As I was the Dark storm I disappear in the dark and the last frame shows the happiness or the hope awakened through Pujashri’s body expression.

Final Outcome

Thank You!
